Looking for quotes for kids on having a winning mindset? I have some great ones for you below.
What is a Winning Mindset?
You’ve probably heard about growth mindset (make sure you check out my 170 Affirmations for Growth Mindset). A winning mindset is similar – it’s a particular way of thinking which is focused on rising to challenges and setting goals with the intention of success.
Winners Mentality Quotes are motivating statements used to help get you there. Below I discuss the qualities you need to have the mindset of a winner (and how you as their parent can support them with this) and list some amazingly inspirational quotes on winners’ attitude.
The Mindset of a Winner
Before we look at some great growth mindset quotes for kids, let’s look at what qualities help you have the mindset of a winner. Here are my top six – and how you as a parent can help your kids develop them.
Positive Attitude:
Having a positive outlook, even in the face of adversity, is crucial. Optimism is key to a winning attitude, as is having the belief that setbacks are opportunities for growth.
Try to support your child to be positive, even when things don’t work out. What can you learn to figure out how you might do things differently next time?
Reflection on performance should be two-pronged: focus on what you did well, and what you can improve on next time.
And, believe yourself to be a lucky person! These affirmations for luck will help.
Crystal-Clear Goals:
It’s essential to set specific, achievable goals. A winning mindset involves knowing what you want to achieve and formulating a plan to get there.
Help your child identify their goals and break them down into smaller, readily achievable chunks, as well as thinking about some longer-term goals too.
If you’re clear on exactly what it is you want to achieve, you can be more focused on how to get there.
Determination:
Be persistent and determined in the pursuit of your goals. Being committed and willing to put in the effort and time is the mark of a mindset for success.
The reality is, you may not always feel like putting in the work, but showing up even when you don’t feel like it is what makes the difference.
Talk to your kids about what commitment means and the importance of sticking with something rather than giving up when you’ve had a couple of bad days.
Ability to Adapt:
Life can throw unexpected curveballs. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances are vital.
You might need to adjust your strategies or even alter your goals slightly – while staying true to your ultimate aim.
Sometimes kids can become fixated on a particular achievement, to the exclusion of all other possibilities.
Help them by pointing out other ways of getting there, or other goals they could focus on, if the current one becomes unlikely.
Self-Confidence:
Believing in your abilities and having confidence in yourself is essential. Self-confidence allows you to take calculated risks and overcome self-doubt.
Confidence can waver of course and this is where kids will need parents to support them.
It’s important that they see you love them unconditionally and not just for what they achieve.
Keep Trying:
Bouncing back from failures and setbacks is a critical aspect of a winning mindset. Instead of dwelling on past mistakes, winners tend to use them as learning opportunities.
It can be hard sometimes, but with a safe and secure base (you), their resilience is likely to be pretty good.
Discuss with your children the fact that most people don’t win or achieve their goal the first time (as many of the quotes on winners’ attitude below indicate).
Keep trying, don’t give up, carry on.
